txtNation’s Jason Shaw attended the recent PPP seminar, 24th June 2015, discussing how these Special conditions will take effect and be enforced under the new Code. Key points can be found below:

  • All aggregators have been advised to wait until the statement is issued before any changes or implementations are made. This will be out this week.
  • The main issue was they are planning on removing 2 of the 12 special conditions and any service categories that use higher tariffs will for now NOT be under special conditions.
  • They are also working on a proposal to remove conditions for voice based Text charge services.
  • One contentious point was the cost indicators on voice calls. As Ofcom and PPP are allowing charges up to £45 they want alerts on £15 and actual customer affirmation on £30.
  • The service operators are saying that few people have the actual systems to implement this. This subject will be ongoing. The MNO’s still only allow £30.

txtNation’s compliance officer Brooklyn Bhandari attended premium telecoms regulator PhonepayPlus’s recent seminar on compliance.

The meet-up on 27th May focussed on Due Diligence, Risk Assessment and Control (DDRAC), outlining changes to the new Code of Practice governing premium-rate mobile services in the UK.

txtNation remains committed to best practice to ensure consumers receive secure, reliable services and that our clients are able to deliver exciting and innovative new business models whilst maintaining compliance with key requirements.

We are proud to work alongside our clients and the wider industry to learn and influence how services are undertaken.

PhonepayPlus has now made their presentation available for anyone to view (PDF).

We are delighted with the positive response to our sixth-generation control panel, MytxtNation, and have introduced a few updates in the past week to enhance your use of our key tools.

We have now made it easier to request new services from MytxtNation. Simply visit the “All APIs” page for a clearer directory of all our available services and a new request feature, allowing you to select the mobile billing and messaging services of interest, which then gets shared with our business development teams.

An experienced representative, or your account manager if you have been assigned one, will then discuss the next steps to ensure we are all lined up. Our focus is on getting your services up and running, ensuring your compliance, technical and business needs are met.

You can find the “Request Service” button throughout MytxtNation. Click one or more services, or tell us about any bespoke needs not listed, confirm your email address or those of your partners, and submit. It’s the quickest way to tell us what you need directly from our control panel.

3 Ways to Improve your Business with a Mobile Number LookupA Mobile Number Lookup allows you to find out information about a mobile number, including the customer’s location and mobile network. This is performed by a Home Location Register (HLR) lookup.

With a Number Lookup you can save money in many areas of mobile marketing and m-commerce. We look at three specific ways of saving money with a Mobile Number Lookup:

  1. Clean your SMS Marketing List:
When running an SMS marketing campaign, much like any other marketing campaign, broadcasting to end-users who don’t read the message is a waste of time and money. An HLR Lookup allows you to identify inactive numbers, which can be removed from your list; identify which network the customer is contracted to, allowing you to choose the best route for delivery and identify whether the mobile phone is on or off, meaning you can choose whether or not to send time-sensitive offers to them. An HLR lookup like this can be run through the API or web-based platform.
  1. Reduce failed transactions:
When offering the ability to pay by mobile, using Premium SMS in the background, once the user’s mobile number is detected or entered, using txtNation’s API, you can run an HLR lookup to see if the number is active and the mobile is turned on.
  1. Increase Success Rates for One Time Password Delivery:
PIN and OTPs are often not delivered to end-users due to mistakes when entering a mobile number for account verification. You can avoid this issue by introducing HLR Discovery Lookup. This will enable you to verify and validate all your numbers more efficiently and reduce the chance of sending PINs to invalid or inaccurate mobile numbers.Using txtNation’s API, you can verify that their mobile number is valid and their phone is turned on before delivering the OTP / PIN. If the number is not active, you can notify them. This not only saves money on delivery, but offers a better customer experience and reduces drop-off rates.

Our Mobile Number Lookup is available through API and web-based platform. If you would like to discuss how your business can benefit from a mobile number lookup solution, please contact us.

We will be announcing updates to our mobile number lookup solution next week.
