Last week txtNation attended the Mobile Asia Expo, 2014 in Shanghai. Aha Chang, txtNation Asia Business Development was in attendance along with several account managers. Below are our photos from the event:
Several members of txtNation’s Business Development team, including our Head of Business Development for Asia are attending Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, China on 11th-13th June.
Mobile Asia Expo is one of the continent’s biggest events focusing on mobile. Last year’s event attracted over 20,000 attendees and this year’s is expected to be even bigger.
txtNation has worked with a number of clients in China, offering in-app billing solutions to allow them to monetise their mobile games and apps through content wrap and unlock options.
txtNation’s Account Manager, Ana Reed-Davies, who is attending the event commented “With txtNation’s in-app billing solution, customers can quickly and easily pay for apps and games. Companies we have worked with in China have seen a huge increase in conversion rates, so we are looking to work with even more.”
In-app billing allows businesses to offer a ‘try and buy’ model, allowing their customers to use applications and games on their handsets before unlocking extra features.
txtNation has appointed Aha Chang as New Business Development for the Asian market, increasing its presence in the market.
Focussing mainly on the VAS market in China, Aha is based in Beijing. He will be working with new clients as well as txtNation’s already strong client-base in Asia. Coming from AlaeVision, he brings a wealth of experience to the business, as well as local and industry knowledge.
Aha has previously worked with iPayment, one of the top credit and debit card-based payment processing companies in Asia. Through this, he has built a reputation in the commerce industry, more recently focusing on mobile.
Jon Rowsell, txtNation’s Managing Director commented “We’re delighted to bring Aha onboard. We are looking to help more businesses in Asia benefit from mobile billing and messaging and Aha is well suited to do this.” This comes as part of txtNation’s drive to increase its global reach, with both mobile billing and mobile messaging.
txtNation attended the Global Mobile Internet Convention in Beijing, earlier this week. One of the most influential mobile conferences in Asia, the event attracted over 10,000 mobile industry executives, entrepreneurs, developers and investors from 30+ countries.

txtNation has now launched its mobile billing solution for India, enabling merchants to accept mobile payments via Premium SMS. This latest development marks the availability of mobile payments in all four BRIC countries, following the launch of Direct Operator Billing in Russia, in January.
With the fastest growing telecom network in the world, development potential and a population of 1.237 billion, India is a big market to enter. India has 635.51 million subscribers in total, or a 53.77% penetration rate, with a monthly mobile phone addition rate of 4.90 million.
txtNation has linked up with Vodafone, Uninor, Tata Docomo, Idea, Airtel and Aircel and offers customer price points / tariffs available across 3 to 50 INR. The new shortcode for India has been added to txtNation platform and is live now, complementing the company’s existing Asian footprint.
txtNation has now added the price points of 5 and 10 RMB are now available to use in China, adding to the existing 1 and 2 RMB tariffs, across Short Code Billing in China – allowing for more flexibility for businesses and merchants.
With a population of over 1.3 billion people with a mobile penetration rate of 68.02%, China is a huge market in which to operate. According to recent statistics from the state-run China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC) China has over 618 million Internet users, with 80% of them accessing the web on their smartphones.
txtNation supports both inbound and outbound Premium SMS and provides connectity across both China Mobile and China Unicom.
Danny Marino, txtNation’s CBDO commented “The new price points bring flexibility and the ability to accept mobile payments for higher value products and services. China’s economy is advancing, as its mobile penetration grows, making this a hugely important country to operate in. We are working with many social networking and in-app service providers adding these price points into play.”
We work with many dating and social sites across the web. Some use mobile billing alongside other methods of payment i.e. credit card, others have moved to just supporting purely Mobile Billing – ‘Pay by Mobile’ due to the huge benefits it brings.
The most common use of ‘Pay by Mobile’ across dating and social sites can be seen in two main areas:
For low cost ‘virtual’ items, mobile billing is key. Who wants to pay on their credit card for a product under 10 euro when they can charge instantly to their phone account, seamlessly.
Allow users to pay for membership for a week or a month using Operator Billing. Pay by SMS!
Uplift from using Direct Operator Billing
Sites that use our billing report an uplift in sales unlike any other billing platform. On mainstream sites mobile billing has seen a 20%+ increase to their existing revenues from customer payments. Mobile Billing is the most common and ubiquitous tool and of course dating and social sites realise consumer choice is always a positive in terms of end-user conversions.
In mobile dating, customers are also attracted to the anonymity that mobile operator billing provides. Combine this with the level of credit card penetration in many worldwide markets being low. So, mobile billing, is even more important in these markets.
Speed to pay
No forms to fill out. Everyone has a mobile phone. Not everyone has a credit card or wants to use it for dating or social sites.
All the customers need to do to pay is send an SMS (or click a link!). We handle everything else from that point on. Several seconds later and the payment is made. Perfect for digital items such as Virtual Currency as example above.

A tremendous event in a fantastic, bustling city. With Shanghai being a vital hub for business in Asia the positioning of the event in this city was undoubtedly important.
We enjoyed meeting with our existing clients based in Asia and we were also pleased to have the opportunity to make many new contacts whilst there.
There was a clear focus on gaming at MAE this year. Many online RPG and mobile app game publishers were in attendance.
Monetization strategies were a key focus and txtNations Premium SMS and Global Mobile Billing coverage was a prime proposition for game publishers in the region working with handset manufacturers on embedded content deals, where that content is shipped for distribution right across the world; and mainly to emerging market countries where un-banked consumer rates are high.
More than 200 companies showcased their goods, games and services at Mobile Asia Expo. Visiting the exhibition halls provided glimpses of exciting new phones, technologies, applications, back-end solutions, games, accessories and more.
